About
Cathy Thomas, owner of In Form Pilates, has always lived a life in motion.
Cathy understands first-hand how beneficial motion is to the body. By junior high school, she was battling weight issues and eventually discovered an improved path toward good nutrition and healthier living through Weight Watchers. |
She continued to lose weight in high school by walking home every day and subsequently took up dancing her junior year.
"I have continued with some form of movement ever since," the Kansas City native says. "It is essential to my well-being to move."
Cathy then attended the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and graduated with a B.A. in dance with an emphasis in modern dance. |
 |
She danced with Kansas City-area choreographers for 10 years and was one of five dancers who started Aha! Dance Theatre in Kansas City, Mo. She produced concerts for Aha! and City in Motion and also created dance publication "Friends of Dance News" that focused on dance in the Kansas City and Lawrence areas.
In the mid-90s, she turned her interests toward Pilates. After undergoing extensive training and certification, she opened In Form Pilates in 1998.
"Once I started learning the exercises, I felt like I understood my posture and my body so much better," says Cathy. "It seemed like something I had always needed but didn't know it." |
